Italian art critic and historian Pascale explores the iconography of death and of resurrection and rebirth in visual art through the ages, mostly in Western history, but with some examples from African, Asian, and Oceanic art. Each page reproduces a painting in color, with commentary almost like bubbles in a comic indicating where within the painting the feature is that he is explaining. His sections cover violent death, widespread and recurring sacred and profane iconographies, the conflict between love and death, portrayals of death itself, the cult of the dead and works created by survivors to commemorate the dead, the journey to the afterlife and life after death, and the victory of life over death. Moret e resurrezione was published in 2007 by Mondadori Electa S.p.A., Milan, Italy.
