'Vengeance is mine', saith the Lord. Men have always had difficulty in accepting this proposition, preferring, when offended, to take matters into their own hands, hunting down and disposing of their enemies by brute force; starting wars, initiating vendettas or just lying in wait with a shotgun or meat cleaver.
Women when aggrieved have traditionally proceeded in subtler ways. While not necessarily more forgiving than their male counter parts, they have not so readily resorted to violence, nor been so dedicated to carrying a grudge from generation to generation, although there are, of course, exceptions. But women, too, have their methods.
This book seeks, not to relay the ever burgeoning factual accounts of how women get their own back, but to show their reactions to betrayal, cruelty and simple nastiness through the filter of fiction. One of the most satisfying means of revenge, as these authors clearly realise, is to put the offender in a story.
