The term "Cappadocia" today refers to a specific region of volcanic valleys and bizarre rock formations where extraordinary physical surroundings and human ingenuity have combined to create an intriguing and dramatic landscape of sometimes bewitching, sometimes monumental beauty. Successive civilizations and cultures have left their mark here, excavating and carving houses, tombs, workplaces and shrines out of the solid rock. Far from destroying the landscape, however, their efforts actually enhanced it, creating structures for posterity that are as exceptional as they are one with nature. Like its subject,Panoramic Landscapes of Cappadocia is also unique as a book offering a stunning array of broad panoramic views of this magical world. The images are accompanied by an informative introductory essay and commentaries by Catherine Jolivet-Lévy, a respected scholar on Cappadocian archaeology and medieval art. Photographer Ahmet Ertuğ’s panoramic images are presented as fold-outs that measure 156 by 36 cms when fully extended. There are 30 of these panoramic plates, each of which is affixed directly to the spine, thus eliminating the need for binding stitches that would otherwise mar the images. Each tome is individually bound by hand.

Geçmiş dönemlerde adını geniş bir bölgeye vermiş olan Kapadokya, günümüzde ise volkanik oluşumla meydana gelmiş bu çok özel yörenin adı. İnsan eli ile oyulmuş olan kayalar ve bu olağanüstü doğal oluşum, sınırları sonsuzluğu zorlayan anıtsal bir topoğrafya oluşturuyor. Sayısız medeniyet bu bölgede izlerini bırakmış; her biri kayaları oyarak evler, mezarlar ve mabetler yaratmış; bu doğa harikasını bozmadan onunla uyum içinde dünyada benzeri olmayan bir peyzaj oluşturarak, bizlere bu yöreyi bir kültür mirası olarak bırakmıştır. Kitapta katlanarak yer alan panoramik fotoğraflar açıldığı zaman 36x156 cm boyutuna ulaşıyor. Bu resimler, okuyucuya tek parça halinde ulaşaabilmesi için resmin üzerine dikiş yapılmadan, elle kitabın sırtına yapıştırılmış.
